Expansion of Green Stamp program
23/11/04
The cleaning and printing industries are the latest converts to the environmental cause - signing up to the Green Stamp Accreditation program to reduce industrial waste.
Environment Minister Judy Edwards today said more small and medium sized businesses were actively finding solutions for waste disposal that benefited the environment.
"We all know that dumping oily waste into storm water drains is no longer acceptable, but smaller businesses need encouragement to change," Dr Edwards said.
"Green Stamp helps industry eliminate or reduce waste to landfill and conserve raw materials and resources such as energy and water."
The program also offers advice and back-up support through:
- environmental assessments;
- industry specific guidelines;
- training seminars;
- assistance with the preparation of environmental management plans; and
- delivery of an environmental product and service directory.
Dr Edwards congratulated Autobahn Mechanical and Electrical Services for making a commitment to accredit 12 retail outlets by June 2005.
"This is a great credit to the Motor Trades Association, which for the past five years has brought new members to the program while also encouraging other industries to take part," she said.
"The Building Service Contractors Association and the WA Branch of the Printing Industries Association of Australia are now working with the Department of Environment to develop Green Stamp programs specific to their operations."
Dr Edwards said there were now 35 accredited Green Stamp businesses, 19 of which received their certificates today.
