Fifteen youth projects receive funding boost

The State Government has awarded more than $58,000 to 15 youth projects including promotion of young people's legal rights, youth theatre productions, a leadership development camp and the Kids Help Line.
Youth Minister Sheila McHale announced a range of grants totalling $58,342, under the Youth Grants WA program.
Ms McHale said the program provided funding for projects that encouraged the participation of young people in innovative and challenging community projects and activities.
Grants up to $5,000 are made available through the Department for Community Development - Youth Affairs, to youth groups, community organisations, local governments, and not-for-profit groups.
"This funding helps community groups to conduct activities that support the development of young people through a wide array of opportunities," Ms McHale said.
The Minister today announced the following approvals:
ABMUSIC (Aboriginal Corporation) - $5,000
to assist with the inaugural Abmusic Indigenous Showcase - a spectacular celebration of indigenous culture and arts.
Act One Scene One Inc - $5,000
to assist with a series of youth theatre productions which will provide young people with an opportunity to develop personal and leadership skills.
AWESOME Arts Australia Ltd - $3,000
to assist with a contemporary publication of a collection of original artworks, stories and poetry created by young Western Australians.
Bunbury Regional Art Management Board Inc - $3,517
to assist with the conducting of a series of music workshops for Aboriginal youth, culminating in a performance at the annual Noongar Festival.
Collie Community Recreation Association - $2,490
to assist with a development camp for members of the Collie Youth Advisory Council, which will provide young people with a positive activity and promote self-esteem and leadership.
Country Music Club of Boyup Brook WA Inc - $2,800
to assist with a series of workshops, involving young people in a structured music program that targets youth development.
Kids Help Line Australia Ltd - $5,000
to assist with The Peer Skills support training program that provides young people with basic communication, counselling and problem-solving skills.
Kojonup District High School - $2,000
to assist with a three-day dance workshop for young men within the Kojonup area, which will provide young men with an opportunity to develop their artistic and social skills.
Murdoch University - $5,000
to assist with the staging of the National Students & Sustainability Conference, to be held in Perth in July.
Shire of Dundas - $3,767
to assist with the running of a leadership development camp for young people from Norseman, which will encourage young people to undertake leadership roles through a structured program of activities.
Shire of Esperance - $3,718
to assist with the construction of a clay freestyle BMX track in Esperance - providing young people with a new avenue of entertainment.
Western Australian Youth Theatre Company - $5,000
to assist with the creation of a new theatre piece that will reflect the nature and history of Fremantle. The young cast will work with a writer and director to develop the script and workshop the performance.
Wickham Youth Group - $2,250
to assist with the purchase of equipment for a proposed youth centre in Wickham. The youth centre will provide a safe entertainment venue for local youth.
Youth Legal Service - $5,000
to assist with the development of a series of posters detailing young people's legal rights and responsibilities, which will be distributed to schools, clubs, hotels and youth organisations.
Youth Media Society of Western Australia - $4,800
to assist with the operation of a youth community radio station, staffed entirely by youth volunteers, with programs being tailored by and for young people.
