First child care centre for Mullewa opened
27/08/02
Community Development Minister Sheila McHale today praised the efforts and dedication of the Mullewa community in setting up the first licensed child care centre in the town.
Speaking at the opening of the Mullewa Occasional Child Care Centre, Ms McHale said planning for the centre had begun in 1997.
"There has been a high need for child care within the community for some years," she said.
"The opening of the occasional child care centre will provide parents and carers in and around Mullewa with an opportunity to leave their children in a licensed service.
"The centre is now open one day a week and can cater for 14 children up to the age of six years old on a sessional or full-day basis."
Ms McHale said setting up the centre had been an important project involving many people in the community.
"Members of the management committee have been committed to pursuing licensed child care within the community," she said.
"I commend past and present committee members for their drive and determination.
"I am delighted the occasional care facility is part of the Mullewa Resource Centre - a focal venue in the community.
"This project is truly a result of the whole community coming together to achieve something for themselves - building on their strengths and finding their own solutions.
"There can be no better recipe for success."
