Freo mob petition presented to Minister
23/8/01
Sport and Recreation Minister Alan Carpenter was today presented with a petition signed by 5,604 Fremantle Dockers fans.
The petition calls on Parliament to take necessary steps to give Fremantle Football Club members a bigger say in the running and operations of their club.
Mr Carpenter said he broadly supported the aims of the Freo Mob and his view had always been that at least 50 per cent of the Fremantle board should be voted on by Fremantle members.
"David Crawford will be presenting his report into the WA Football Commission on Monday and I am hopeful that it will include changes to the way the AFL clubs are structured within the Commission," Mr Carpenter said.
The petition reads:
"We the undersigned, say that the Fremantle Football Club should be owned by the Fremantle Football Club and that members of the Fremantle Football Club should vote on the appointment of its own board.
"Now we ask that the Legislative Assembly takes the necessary action to implement this change."
