A newly-lodged Outline Development Plan for a residential development and grassed golf course in Kalgoorlie-Boulder's north-west sector will help secure the city's future.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan announced today that the State Government's land development specialist, LandCorp, had lodged the plan with the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
Ms MacTiernan said the city would now review the plan and make it available to the public for comment.
"This planning process is the next step in delivering the Gallop Government's $10.5million commitment to assist the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder to develop the grassed golf course," she said.
"The plan provides a framework for development of the area, which is expected to meet the city's housing needs for the next 20 years, as well as providing a site for the new golf complex to serve all three existing golf clubs, and a tourist resort.
"It complies with the city's planning guidelines and is designed to create a neighbourhood which can accommodate a range of housing types and small businesses; is convenient for pedestrians as well as vehicles; and has safe, useable public open spaces.
"The development will be important in the city's efforts to attract and retain workers and support growth and diversity in the local economy."
Ms MacTiernan said LandCorp had consulted extensively with stakeholders, including the city's three golf clubs, the community, business representatives and the local authority in preparing the plan over the past two years.
She said LandCorp was working closely with the city and MLA for Eyre John Bowler, who chaired the Grass Golf Course Development Committee, to ensure an integrated approach to the development. This included proposals to use only recycled water in maintaining the golf course.
The planning process was expected to take between three and six months.
