Good news on Goldfields golf course
15/1/02
Plans for Kalgoorlie-Boulder's proposed grassed golf course complex received a strong boost today.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said her meeting today with representatives of the City of Kalgoorlie Boulder, its tourism industry and the member for Eyre, John Bowler, was most productive.
Ms MacTiernan said the Gallop Government was keen to support development of a grassed golf course for the city.
"This facility will help encourage people to stay in the town and reverse a trend to fly-in, fly-out," she said.
"It also has the potential to expand tourism and help create new employment opportunities.
"The city and I are united in wanting to find a way for the golf course to go ahead.
"We have had constructive discussions about the possible funding arrangements and are now working on a more detailed plan.
"I anticipate we will have a more detailed proposal by the end of February."
Kalgoorlie Mayor Paul Robson said the meeting was very productive.
"We are off to a good start in 2002," Mr Robson said.
"We have made a lot of headway with our discussions towards progressing the Kalgoorlie-Boulder golf course complex."
