Construction of Midland's new million-dollar, state-of-the-art career fire station is expected to begin within a few months.
Emergency Services Minister and local member Michelle Roberts said the existing fire station on Great Eastern Highway would be sold and the new station built on the corner of Morrison Road and Mathoura Street in Midland.
"The old station is more than 35 years old and does not meet today's needs of busy emergency service personnel," Mrs Roberts said.
"Our Government is committed to providing our firefighters with modern facilities in which to train and improve their skills so they can safeguard our communities."
The Minister said the new site for the station was chosen because it was in a semi-commercial area as well as being on a main arterial road.
"The existing site is too small for the proposed new facility and it is in a growing shopping area, which is not ideal for a fire service," she said.
"It is important that we consider all issues like this when planning for the future.
"By moving the station to the new site, it will be more strategically placed so firefighters can respond more efficiently to all needs of the area."
Mrs Roberts said tenders to build the new station had closed this week and it was expected that firefighters would be able to move into their new station by the end of the year.
