The State Government is targeting crime and anti-social behaviour within local communities with grants totalling $1million.
Local Government and Regional Development Minister Tom Stephens today announced that 47 communities throughout the State would receive funding through the SAFER W.A. Community Security Program.
Mr Stephens said Aboriginal organisations were included in the program for the first time.
"A sense of safety and security is the foundation of any happy, progressive community and with this financial support, many communities can further this through specific projects," he said.
The Minister met with members of the city based Noongar Patrol to advise them that they would receive $40,000 to bolster their services in monitoring the welfare, safety and security of indigenous people using the city's parks and fringe areas.
The City of Perth was successful in its submission to the grants program in receiving funds for the Noongar Patrol and $18,000 towards the Women and Safety Project.

"Some communities will use their grants to safeguard vulnerable groups of citizens, while others will organise more activities catering for young people," Mr Stephens said.
The grants help fund such initiatives as provision of lighting, fencing, bike and skate parks, foot patrols, security audits, skills workshops for youth at risk and a YMCA mobile youth centre.

They also help fund employment of youth workers and activity officers, Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinators, indigenous workers, youth sport and recreation officers and a community crime liaison assistant.
Grants from the $1million Security Program were allocated with input from the Western Australian Police Service, the Office of Crime Prevention, the Department of Housing and Works, the WA Local Government Association and the Department of Local Government and Regional Development.
