Government welcomes early arrival of Emirates

The Western Australian Government has welcomed news that Emirates airlines will begin non-stop direct flights between Dubai and Perth in August, two months earlier than expected.
The inaugural Emirates B777-200 series aircraft will touch down in Perth on August 2 and bring with it new trade and job opportunities for Western Australia.
"The arrival of Emirates will provide a major boost for the State in terms of tourism and trade and could indirectly create up to 200 jobs," Acting Premier Eric Ripper said.
It is estimated that nearly 1,000 visitors per week will arrive in Perth onboard the Emirates flights, which will operate four times a week.
The visitors were expected to spend an estimated $45-$55million in WA each year.
Mr Ripper said Premier Geoff Gallop led a delegation to the United Arab Emirates last year in which the deal was struck.
Under the arrangement, WA will be promoted as a world-class holiday destination, supporting the Government's drive to better promote the State in new tourism markets.
"We look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with Emirates," Mr Ripper said.
The Government provided a support package worth up to $1.65million over three years to secure the agreement.
