Governor-General's first official visit to WA

Premier Geoff Gallop said today that His Excellency the Right Reverend Dr Peter Hollingworth AC, OBE, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia and Her Excellency Mrs Ann Hollingworth will pay their first official visit to Western Australia tomorrow.
The visit includes a ceremonial welcome at Government House tomorrow, followed by a State reception for more than 400 guests on Saturday afternoon.
The Governor General will also be attending the opening of the National Conference of Young People and visiting the WA Maritime Museum with Housing and Works Minister Tom Stephens during his stay.
Dr Gallop said the Governor -General and Mrs Hollingworth would receive official calls from Hon David Malcolm AC, Lieutenant Governor and Chief Justice of WA; the Lord Mayor of the City of Perth, Dr Peter Nattrass; and other dignitaries throughout their visit. The Governor-General and Mrs Hollingworth will also attend a service at St George's Cathedral prior to their departure on Sunday, September 23.
Born in Adelaide in 1935, Dr Hollingworth graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Licentiate of Theology. Following more than 30 years in a range of positions within the Brotherhood of St Laurence and completing a Master of Arts Degree in Social Work at Melbourne University, Dr Hollingworth was elected Archbishop of Brisbane in 1989. He was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1976, followed by an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1988. His chairmanship of the International Year of Shelter for the Homeless National NGO Committee earned him the accolade of Australian of the Year for 1992. In May 2001, Dr Hollingworth received the Lambeth Degree of Doctor of Letters from the Archbishop of Canterbury for his work in Christian Social Ethics and Social Welfare.
Mrs Hollingworth was born in Melbourne and studied physiotherapy at Melbourne University. She ran her own practice and throughout her career has specialised in areas such as obstetric physiotherapy, geriatrics, women's health and orthopaedics, retiring from practice in 1998.
