Tourism Minister Bob Kucera will officially open the new Harbour Town Brand Direct Outlet Shopping Centre in Perth today which he says will be popular with locals and tourists alike.
The new centre is the third of its kind in Australia and will employ hundreds of Western Australians.
"Quality shopping is something that tourists are looking for when they visit Perth, and this new centre will boost the retail experiences available in our city," Mr Kucera said.
"Shopping is the number two leisure activity undertaken by domestic visitors to Perth, behind dining out."
Mr Kucera said the multi-million dollar development was a further sign of the growing economic confidence in Western Australia.
"I'm also delighted by the strong investment in the tourism industry at present, and of course the biggest project in the city is the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre which will open in August - providing a major boost to tourism across the State," he said.
"There are tourism projects worth $556million either underway or completed around WA this year, with a further $1.2billion worth of projects at the planning stage."
The Minister said these figures highlighted why the $3.8billion tourism industry was one of the State's key economic drivers.
