Health Minister officially opens Narrogin Regional Hospital redevelopment
23/2/02
Health Minister Bob Kucera today officially opened the $5.5million redevelopment of Narrogin District Hospital, saying it would significantly enhance the delivery of health care in the region.
The emergency department, medical imaging unit and ambulance entrance have been relocated to make the hospital safer and more accessible and a new rooming-in facility allows for greater family involvement in patient care.
Mr Kucera said the redevelopment was expected to improve patient care and aid in the attraction of retention of health professionals to the region.
"In a State the size of Western Australia, one of our biggest challenges is overcoming the tyranny of distance so that we can provide our rural communities with the quality health services they deserve," he said.
"This redevelopment goes a long way to providing the people of Narrogin and surrounding areas access to a state-of-the-art health facility."
Mr Kucera thanked the staff and community for taking such an active role in the redevelopment process - particularly with the design and fit-out of the new facilities.
"The staff of Narrogin hospital should also be commended for managing to work around the logistical problems associated with an ongoing building environment and for their ability to maintain patient services throughout the redevelopment process," he said.
