The East-West Rail Commemoration train will today arrive in Western Australia and the town of Kalgoorlie, Minister responsible for the Centenary in Western Australia Tom Stephens said.
On day three of its historic journey, the 'Tracks to Federation' Indian Pacific will cross the border from South Australia into Western Australia where hundreds of people are expected to welcome its arrival.
"As one of Western Australia's centrepiece events to mark the Centenary, 'Tracks to Federation' captures our history and provides us with an ideal opportunity to pause and reflect upon the significant events that have shaped our State," Mr Stephens said.
"In Kalgoorlie, passengers will be greeted by school children and join in celebrations organised by local community members, including a preview of the Australian Prospectors' and Miners' Hall of Fame."
The 'Tracks to Federation' Indian Pacific and Federation Train will depart Kalgoorlie at 11.59pm on Wednesday, October 24 for the final leg of the journey.
Both trains will stop at Northam before arriving at the East Perth Rail Terminal on Thursday, October 25, 2001.
