The State Government has announced the formation of an advisory body for one of Western Australia's fastest growing industries.
State Development Minister Clive Brown today announced the establishment of an Information and Communications Industry Development Forum.
"The forum will provide an effective means by which the WA industry can voice its views and provide input to Government decision making in the area," Mr Brown said.
"Information and communications technology is a key component of a growing number of businesses. WA ICT companies are well positioned and have the expertise to successfully establish niche markets both in Australia and overseas."
The Minister said the forum consisted of people with a strong ICT industry focus.
The chairman would be Mal Bryce, a former WA Deputy Premier who had an extensive technology background.
Other members of the forum included Alex Allan, Stuart Hope, Rich Krasnoff, Gee Lightfoot, Peter Morris, Lorraine Pedofsky and Cheryl Robertson.
Mr Brown indicated the composition of the forum would match the dynamic nature of the ICT industry.
"This is an outstanding collection of people who have both the vision and the expertise to bring WA to the forefront of ICT development and application," he said.
"They will advise me on matters such as technology and its application, investment and exports as they relate to the development of the ICT industry."
The forum will meet for the first time tomorrow (Monday, April 29).
