7/11/02
The Regional Development Council will have a new chairperson with the appointment this week of Ian Taylor.
Local Government and Regional Development Minister Tom Stephens said Mr Taylor brought to the role extensive experience and knowledge of regional issues.
"As chairperson of the council, Mr Taylor will play a significant role in representing all nine regions of Western Australia and their concerns," Mr Stephens said.
The Regional Development Council is the peak advisory body to Government on regional issues and consists of the chairpersons of the nine Regional Development Commissions, along with two representatives from the WA Local Government Association.
Mr Stephens said the council had been active in advocating for and seeking improvements in telecommunications, power and water - significant issues to regional Western Australians.
He said Mr Taylor would be an asset to the team, ensuring that the people in regional WA got a more equitable level of service, comparable to those living in the metropolitan area.
