Western Australians are being encouraged to report suspects of being involved in the heinous and bloody illegal activity of dog and cock fighting.
Local Government and Regional Development Minister Tom Stephens today launched the campaign, which involved a toll-free hotline for members of the public to alert the authorities of any information which could lead to the end of the barbaric and cruel practice.
Mr Stephens commended the RSPCA on its on-going commitment and tireless efforts to protect animals and pets in our society.
"Members of the public can call the hotline today on 1800 777 223 and be confident that their call will be treated on a confidential or anonymous basis," he said.
"It is hard to believe that people could be involved in such horrendous activities in Western Australia. However, dog and cock fighting are occurring and we need to work collectively to flush out individuals involved in the activity.
"I urge anyone with any suspicion or piece of information about illegal dog and cock fighting to report individuals."
The new Animal Welfare Bill, which went through State Parliament last night, expands the Net for the prosecution of anyone participating or being involved in an illegal animal fight.
The RSPCA is also offering a reward of $5,000 to anyone who provides information which leads to a successful conviction.
