Users of the William Grundt Memorial Library will soon have access to a greater number of print and other library resources.
Culture and the Arts Minister Sheila McHale today announced that Kalgoorlie-Boulder would receive additional library stock as part of the $4million over four years committed by the State Government in support of public libraries.
"The first allocation of $1million was announced in the State Budget in September 2001," Ms McHale said.
"The Government is committed to retaining the State's public libraries as the building blocks for enhancing our quality of life."
During a visit on Saturday to the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder's William Grundt Memorial Library, Ms McHale said the additional funding would be used to purchase the resources necessary to develop a wider and more comprehensive collection for public use.
"This will increase community access to educational and recreational resources in public libraries," she said.
It is expected that 44 local governments will receive extra stock because of the additional funding.
City Librarian Amy Monaghan has started ordering the 981 volumes allocated to Kalgoorlie-Boulder in 2002. Additional volumes will be ordered and received over the following three years.
"The provision of public library services is an important partnership between State and local government," Ms McHale said.
"Both State and local governments have shown that they are committed to working together to provide a high standard of service delivery through public libraries to the community.
"The community-based network of 238 public libraries in the State provides opportunities for lifelong learning and intellectual stimulation for all Western Australians, regardless of their location or income.
"The additional stock allocated to the William Grundt Memorial Library will assist in this process."
