The Goldfields-Esperance Region's second Croc Festival has been a great success, according to Goldfields-Esperance Minister Tom Stephens.
Last night, Mr Stephens formally closed the three-day event, which had involved more than 2,200 students from 31 schools in a kaleidoscope of colourful events and activities on Kalgoorlie-Boulder's Oasis Playing Fields.
Participants came from throughout the region and as far away as Tjukurla, 1,500km north east of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Narrogin in the Wheatbelt Region.
"Croc is all about making new friends and learning that life can be exciting and enjoyable without drugs and alcohol," Mr Stephens said.
'It also encourages kids to extend themselves, try new things and be confident about taking control of their own lives."
During the day, the students participated in arts activities, sports clinics, workshops aimed at encouraging healthy living, education and goal setting.
In the evenings schools presented dance and drama ranging from traditional indigenous performances to mini-musicals - on fully equipped stages with support from professional artists.
Mr Stephens said the State Government would contribute more than $115,000 towards Croc festivals in Kalgoorlie and Derby this year.
"As well as its huge positive impact on the children and youth who participate, the festival brings an economic boost with last year's festival bringing about $135,000 worth of business to the city," he said.
The Minister also thanked the many adults who contributed to making the event a huge success.
