Agriculture Minister Kim Chance has praised the contributions of two community representatives awarded life memberships of the Toodyay Agricultural Society today.
Mr Chance presented life membership certificates to Charles Wroth and David Chitty after officially opening the 148th Toodyay Agricultural Show, one of the oldest agricultural shows in the State.
The Minister said the commitment and strength of the local community to ensuring its agricultural traditions were recognised and passed down through the generations was embodied in the two recipients.
"Charles Wroth has been involved with the Toodyay Agricultural Show since he was a teenager entering livestock, and helping in the poultry section," Mr Chance said.
"In his early twenties, Charles became a committee member and over the years has worked in a number of positions including vice president of the society for three years and two periods as president in 1993 and then in 1999-2000.
"His enthusiasm, overall knowledge of agriculture and commitment to the show has earned him great respect amongst his peers.
"David Chitty joined the Toodyay Agricultural Society in the early 1980s and has served in a number of roles, including being a cattle steward, ground steward as well as various roles on the committee.
"He was junior vice president from 1991-92, senior vice president from 1993-95 and president of the society from 1996-99. He has also served on the building and youth hall committee.
"David has been a committed, valued and enthusiastic member who has continually worked for the benefit of the society and fellow members."
Mr Chance said the traditions built by a show with such a proud history as Toodyay's reminded the community of the heritage the district possessed and were a genuine source of pride.
"The organising committee of the Toodyay show has been mindful of the need to continue to make the show relevant and interesting to not only adults, but also to the younger generation and they deserve congratulations for this," he said.
