Local tenor proclaimed WA's first-ever 'Senior Star'

Martin Clare, 66, of Parkwood was today named winner of the unique 'Search for a Senior Star' talent competition, after performing in front of a capacity crowd of 1,000 at the Regal Theatre.
Seniors Minister Sheila McHale congratulated the local tenor on his win.
"Mr Clare wowed the crowd and the judges with an amazing rendition of 'Nessun Dorma'," Ms McHale said.
"Congratulations also go to the runner-up, the Tapestry Barbershop Quartet of Mandurah and third place-getter South-West singer David Rees of Bunbury."
The winners were judged by an expert panel that included Holly Wood of The Sunday Times, John West of Sunfly Karaoke and Beth Ormsby of BBC Entertainment.
The winner received a professional karaoke machine courtesy of Sunfly Australia and a $500 Woolworths gift-voucher and will have the opportunity to perform during the WA Seniors Awards Gala Ceremony (October 31).
The second and third place-getters also received generous prizes.
