Lotterywest grant to assist St John Ambulance Volunteers
3/6/05
St John Ambulance in Western Australia today received a Lotterywest grant of $920,020 towards the upgrade of equipment and facilities, and the provision of more ambulances.
Government Enterprises Minister Eric Ripper presented the cheque to St John Ambulance CEO Ian Kaye-Eddie at the service's State office in Belmont.
"The Lotterywest grant will assist towards building upgrades and improvements, as well as towards the purchase of defibrillators, training and communication equipment," Mr Ripper said.
The Minister said almost $600,000 of the $920,020 would be directed towards purchasing a caravan, two mobile first aid posts and 12 new and two second-hand ambulances.
"This grant will specifically assist the network of volunteer ambulance services throughout the country regions of WA, as well as being directed to the metropolitan Volunteer First Aid Service," he said.
"It will enable St John Ambulance volunteers to continue their good work in providing emergency, first aid and support services to the people of WA.
"The Gallop Government is improving the quality of services to all Western Australians wherever they live."
Mr Ripper said the support was in addition to the $34.7million allocated to St John last year to help the organisation upgrade facilities, put more ambulances on the road and employ more staff.
"The Government is helping ambulance users by providing free ambulance travel for aged pensioners and a 50 per cent concession for other seniors from July 1 this year," he said.
St John Ambulance has received more than $15million in grants from Lotterywest over the past 70 years, including $1.5million provided last year to assist with the construction and development of a new State Office.
