Mandurah Beautifies Eastern Foreshore Area
30/10/02
The State Government today congratulated the City of Mandurah for its newest additions to the popular eastern foreshore area, which includes a small wading area for children, a limestone groyne and casual mooring facilities.
Representing Tourism Minister Clive Brown, Parliamentary Secretary Ken Travers inspected the completed project, where he presented a cheque to the City of Mandurah for $70,000, which is half the cost of the whole project.
Mr Travers said tourism was a major economic driver for the Peel region and that Mandurah was forging ahead with its commitment to tourism infrastructure.
"The range of attractions available in Mandurah is truly outstanding," he said.
"Visitor numbers to the Peel region are proof of how important this area is when people are considering a break.
"Domestic visitors alone to the Peel region in the 12 months to June 2002 have generated $76.5million for the region."
Mr Travers said the development of the eastern foreshore area gave businesses, residents and visitors a focal point along the foreshore, as well as providing a wonderful community asset.
He wished Mandurah every success with their future projects.
