The remaining unsealed sections of the Marble Bar Road between Port Hedland and Ripon Hills Road are expected to be sealed by December.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan announced today that Consolidated Construction Pty Ltd had been awarded a $7.6million contract to reconstruct and seal two gravel sections totalling 16km.
"In its first term the Gallop Government will have completed a project that has been promised to the people of Marble bar for more than 50 years," Ms MacTiernan said.
"The total project, which cost $14million, is part of this Government's plan to develop WA as a liveable, dynamic and vibrant State.
"As well as improving road safety by eliminating the severe dust problems, sealing the road will reduce road closures due to flooding during the wet season.

"The work also incorporates construction of floodways at the Brockman River.
"A better road will benefit the area's pastoral industry and existing mining operations and promote development of new resource projects in the East Pilbara by reducing freight transport costs.
"It also provides improved road access to Aboriginal communities and easier tourist access to the Rudall River National Park."
Ms MacTiernan said the road carried more than 130 vehicles each day on average.
About 60 of these were triple road trains carrying freight to Port Hedland and servicing the mining and pastoral industries.
