Merredin by-election to be held on November 24

Premier Geoff Gallop has announced that the Merredin by-election will be held on Saturday, November 24.
The announcement followed yesterday's resignation from State Parliament of former Deputy Premier and National Party Leader Hendy Cowan.
"The Government does not believe the people of Merredin should be denied a representative in the Parliament for any longer than is absolutely necessary," Dr Gallop said.
"Accordingly, I have today written to the Speaker requesting that he advise the Electoral Commissioner that the writ for the by-election to fill the vacancy in the Merredin Electoral District be held on Saturday, November 24."
Dr Gallop said the close of nominations for the by-election would be Friday, October 26.
