Mid-West school students benefit from summer works program

Many students in the Mid-West Education District will return to improved schools when they head back to school on February 4.
Education Minister Alan Carpenter said more than $80,000 had been spent replacing roofs and carpets, painting and repairs in Mid-West Government schools over the summer break.
The work was part of a State-wide holiday building program that saw more than $20million spent on capital works and maintenance at Government schools over the six-week holiday.
"Leeman Primary School had its roof replaced at a cost of $11,000," Mr Carpenter said.
"Painting work was done at Waggrakine Primary School and Three Springs District High School at a cost of $20,000 at each school and Carnamah District High School had its carpet replaced at a cost of $15,000.
"Roof and gutter repairs worth $15,000 were carried out at Mt Tarcoola Primary School.
"Holland Street School also had its roof replaced at a cost of $5,000."
Mr Carpenter said the works carried out or finalised over the summer holidays were a major part of the department's annual construction and maintenance program.
"As a result of the works program, thousands of students and staff will be working in great new surroundings this year," he said.
"The success of this year's program is due in large part to the effective working relationship of project teams from the Departments of Education and Housing and Works, their consultants and contractors."
