Training facilities for aviation students in Western Australia have been boosted with the opening today of the Midland College of TAFE's new Aviation Training Centre at Jandakot.
Training Minister John Kobelke, who officially opened the centre, said it would continue to keep Midland TAFE at the cutting edge of aviation training in Australia.
"Midland TAFE has a well-earned national and international reputation for providing high quality training in aviation which began in 1957, when the college first delivered training to Aircraft Maintenance Apprentices at Perth Airport," Mr Kobelke said.
"The facilities at the new Aviation Training Centre are the culmination of a vision developed by a large group of people from the college's community - the college council, staff and industry partners.
"Training delivered at the centre has been developed through the college's efforts to meet the demands of aviation professionals in the industry.
"The new centre is a good example of the diversity and specialisation of vocational education and training (VET) delivered all over WA by TAFE colleges."
Mr Kobelke said that Midland College had forged a number of important international and national partnerships.
"In conjunction with the Department of Transport, the college has undertaken extensive networking with the China Civil Aviation Authority, with the objective of making WA the next World Centre of Excellence in Aviation," he said.
"Increasingly, international students are looking to Australia for aviation technician training, pilot and airport management training, and Midland TAFE is in an excellent position to meet this demand.
"The expertise of the college staff and the many valuable partnerships the college has fostered over the years represent a significant achievement within the aviation industry."
