A tender for new accommodation to be built in Kalgoorlie-Boulder has been announced by the State Government.
Housing and Works Minister Nick Griffiths said the tender for construction of twelve single storey townhouses had been awarded to Duwal Constructions at a contract price of $1,021,047.
Mr Griffiths said six townhouses would be built on lot 216 (133) Burt Street and six townhouses would be built on lot 73 (16) Moran Street.
"Adcroft Architects in Perth, well known for their work in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, had designed the townhouses," he said.
"Both sets of units have been orientated to lessen the effects of harsh summer weather conditions and have also received a five star energy rating.
"The Gallop Government believes Western Australians should have reasonable access to secure and affordable housing.
"We intend to meet our obligation of helping the homeless and disadvantaged and we'll do that by delivering public housing programs which meet community needs," the Minister said.
The townhouses have been scheduled for completion in August 2004.
