An audit of training for security guards and crowd controllers has ensured only quality trainers are still operating in Western Australia.
Training Minister John Kobelke said a three-month audit by the Department of Training has seen two-thirds of the organisations offering training courses leave the industry.
"This has resulted in a real shake-up of security industry training," Mr Kobelke said.
"Many of the providers weren't happy with the process or the results. Others felt they had benefited from the process and would now provide a better quality service.
"Either way, we can now say with considerable confidence that if you are a student with a registered training provider for the security industry, you are in good hands.
"The Government is determined to ensure that trainers who were not delivering high standard training were given the option of improving or losing their licence."
"What we have seen is those operators who were taking money for issuing a certificate have left the industry and those offering quality training have remained."
When the audit started there were 68 registered training organisations. Forty providers relinquished their registration before the audit even began.
Of the 28 audited, 11 had serious non-compliance issues and were given three weeks to address them. Six relinquished their registration at the end of the audit, another six had minor issues to address and the other five were not currently delivering security training and will be fully audited once they commence.
"The audit of training providers means that if you are an employer looking to employ a graduate from one of those providers, you will have a competent and skilled employee," Mr Kobelke said.
"The audit is part of the Gallop Government's commitment to improving the quality in our training system and to meeting our election commitment.
"With more of our young people going into the training system after school and a focus on re-skilling and skills up-grading, the WA community and our businesses need to feel confident we have a vocational education and training system of the highest quality.
"I believe we are well on our way to that goal."
