Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan has set the Western Australian Planning Commission the task of finding a suitable relocation site for the Zuvela family's fruit and vegetable shop in Kingsley.
Ms MacTiernan said she supported the actions of the WAPC in acquiring the Zuvela business and that this had resolved a decade-long dispute with neighbours.
However, the Minister said the local community had shown overwhelming support for the Zuvela family and their wish to continue their business in the local area.
"I have asked the WAPC to assist the Zuvela family to locate premises from which they can lawfully operate their business," she said.
"I can confirm an alternative site has been identified and will be progressed as a matter of priority.
"A number of vacant shops within local shopping centres from which the business could operate were identified but the Zuvelas did not want to operate in a shopping centre environment.
"At my request, the WAPC has now identified a possible site, which the Zuvelas have indicated is attractive to them.
"The WAPC will progress a rezoning of part of the land to accommodate the business and will hold discussions with the City of Wanneroo.
"The land is owned by the WAPC and the Zuvelas will be offered the first right to purchase the site at fair market value once the land has been rezoned.
"The original action of the WAPC in providing compensation to the Zuvelas recognises that Yellagonga Regional Park is the Kings Park of the north and its boundaries need to be maintained if the community is going to be satisfied that our parks system is secure.
"Overall, the outcome we are working towards will provide a satisfactory result for the Zuvelas, who will be able to re-open Everyday Fresh in due course.
"At the same time, the outcome will maintain the park in its entirety for the enjoyment of all."
