Perth's seniors have been invited for a week-long free ride on the buses, trains or ferries.
The offer was made today by the Minister responsible for Public Transport Michelle Roberts. Seniors will be able to travel free on all Transperth services during Seniors Week which begins October 28 and continues through to November 3.
"Our Government recognises the valuable contribution that seniors make to our community and this is an opportunity to say thank you," she said.
"We are inviting seniors to free travel on our public transport system throughout the week and enjoy the many sights and experiences that our wonderful city has to offer.
"Many seniors rely on public transport to remain active and achieve daily chores and this is a great opportunity to have an adventure for free."
Mrs Roberts said Seniors Week 2001, which was titled Celebrating Life, was aimed at encouraging seniors to actively participate in their community and enjoy life.
The Minister said a brochure detailing Transperth's travel information for seniors and special itineraries and tours was also being distributed.
"This is a very positive initiative that not only encourages seniors to travel around Perth using public transport, but also gives instructions on how to do it," she said.
"The special Transperth itineraries and tours that have been developed for Seniors Week are very much in tune with this theme of getting out there and enjoying life."
Mrs Roberts said some of the tours available linked Perth's cultural connection to Europe. Seniors are free to travel on tours including Our English Heritage, The Italian Connection, The Swiss Alps, A Mediterranean Food Fantasy, and Irish Eyes.
Seniors are reminded that they are entitled to free travel on all Transperth services on Sundays and public holidays all year round, when in possession of a Transperth Seniors Ticket.
