Western Australians will learn how to create a frog-friendly garden as part of a new environmental tourism package launched today by Tourism Minister Clive Brown.
Mr Brown said the package enabled tourists to become involved in - and learn about -the preservation of frog numbers and eco-systems; and made an ideal interactive children's holiday activity.
"There are 16 frog species living in the Perth metropolitan region and 28 species found between Geraldton and Esperance," the Minister said.
"Three of these species are listed as threatened or endangered in WA, including the White Bellied frog, the Yellow or Orange Bellied frog and the Sunset frog. However, almost every species has suffered a drop in numbers, especially around the major cities and towns.
"The Frog Watch package invites visitors and locals to become involved in the Neighbourhood Frog Watch program and build a frog-friendly garden.
"As well as helping to position this State as a premier nature-based tourism destination, the packages offer a series of activities which can be undertaken in various areas of WA, connecting visitors with the natural environment."
The Frog Watch Environmental Tourism Package has been developed in conjunction with the Alcoa Frog Watch team at the Museum of WA.
Each package contains a booklet on frogs in WA, a postcard, a sticker and a fridge magnet. Packages cost $12.95, and are available from the WA Museum.
Part proceeds for the sale of package goes back to the WA Museum's Alcoa Frog Watch Program.
