Minister lends weight to new Western Australian export and tourism drive
11/3/02
Emerging export markets in Eastern Europe and the promotion of Western Australia as an exciting tourist destination are in the sights of State Development and Tourism Minister Clive Brown when he leaves on a 14-day overseas trip tomorrow.
In visiting Eastern Europe, Mr Brown is acting on a new report - 'Opportunities For Western Australian Business In Central And Eastern Europe' - which he recently launched.
"The report urges a concerted WA effort to win 'overlooked' markets in both Eastern and Central Europe - untapped regions that offer opportunities for products and services in industries where WA is particularly competitive," he said.
The Minister will also discuss strategies for promoting our exports with the WA Government's Europe Office, and spend a full day in Poland where he will meet key industry representatives and attend a trade and investment seminar.
While in London, Mr Brown will meet with heads of resource-based companies and attend a business migration seminar organised by the Small Business Development Corporation.
He will also be attending the world's largest tourism fair in Germany, the Internationale Tourismus Borse, to meet with a number of WA's key distribution partners in the UK and Europe.
The Minister will launch one of WA's major tourism marketing activities for Germany this year, Songs and Vision of WA, a multi-visual show to tour 30 German cities over the next six weeks, with a live performance by WA's own singer songwriter,
Kelly Newton-Wordsworth.
Mr Brown will also travel to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, where WA is to open a trade and investment office later this year.
The Minister will meet with Emirates Airline chiefs in Dubai to further cement WA's commitment to the service which begins flying from Dubai to Perth four times a week from August 2.
Mr Brown said the new air service would provide valuable links for WA trade and tourism with Emirates, providing excellent connections from Dubai through to many major cities in Europe and the UK.
