Minister opens stage two of Geraldton's Seacrest Estate
4/9/01
Housing and Works Minister Tom Stephens today announced the commencement of the second stage of the hi-tech Geraldton Seacrest Estate - a joint venture between the State Government and local developers.
Mr Stephens said the development of the Department of Housing and Works' Wandina land holding, promised the creation of an all-new 'intelligent' subdivision featuring common cabling of all telecommunication services.
"It also demonstrates a commitment by the department's Landstart division and Humfrey Land Developments, to minimal environmental impact by an integrated residential project," he said.
"The second stage of Seacrest offers home building sites ready for sale and a site for an integrated aged persons development.
'This site has already been sold, and a state-of-the art facility offering independent living accommodation, should be constructed within the year.
"Free to air satellite television - including up to 53 television stations, remote security control, and direct, high speed Internet access with personal computers in each home as part of house and land packages - will be offered at Seacrest.
"STD calls to Perth at local call prices, and direct linkages between all homes and both private and state schools within the subdivision will also be included."
Mr Stephens said Landstart was currently involved in several innovative and progressive developments both in the Perth metropolitan area and key country regional centres.
Much of this was now being achieved by joint venture with private sector participants.
Landstart was keen to build on its relationship with the private sector and in particular housing-related land development projects.
The Seacrest subdivision would entail the development of over 1,400 lots over 10 years, as well as a cabana style tourist development, a combined Parish and school site built by the Catholic Church, and a local shopping centre.
