Health Minister Bob Kucera today thanked Professor Bryant Stokes for his contribution to the public health system of Western Australia.
Professor Stokes has been WA's Chief Medical Officer and clinical consultant to the Commissioner of Health since 1995.
He stepped into the demanding role of Commissioner of Health in an acting capacity in July this year.
Mr Kucera thanked Professor Stokes for his advice and support during a time of transition.
"I am very grateful to Professor Stokes for his support," he said.
"Although he is leaving the role of Chief Medical Officer, I have no doubt that his contribution to improving the health and well-being of Western Australians will continue."
Professor Stokes is a leading neurosurgeon in private practice and is a serving member of the Commonwealth Medical Services Advisory Committee and a member of the Australian Safety and Quality Council in Healthcare.
This year, he was made a Member of the Order of Australia in the Queen's Honours list for his services to the field of medicine.

The new Director General of Health, Mike Daube, takes up his position on Monday, November 12.
