State Development Minister Clive Brown will launch Coles Supermarkets' Buy WA First campaign tomorrow at Coles' Victoria Park supermarket.
The Buy WA First campaign, which was launched by the Minister with Western Australia's independent grocery stores in May, is designed to boost jobs and opportunities throughout Western Australia by increasing the levels of local produce sold through WA supermarkets.
Mr Brown said WA was a world-class producer of a complete range of grocery and consumer items and Western Australians who wanted to keep jobs here should give their preference to local products.
"WA grocery and consumer items are sought after throughout Australia and the world," he said.
"The Buy WA First campaign aims to make local produce the first choice of WA consumers, in the same way that it has become the first choice of millions around the world."
Mr Brown congratulated Coles' 70 WA supermarkets on joining the Buy WA First campaign, saying this would add significant weight to the Gallop Government's efforts to boost local content in local supermarkets.
"Coles has a significant presence here and is a regular shopping outlet for many Western Australians," he said.
"With Coles joining Dewsons, Supa Valu and Foodland in the Gallop Government's Buy WA First campaign, the campaign now has the potential to provide even greater assistance to WA producers."
Mr Brown said consumers should look out for the Buy WA First logo, which would identify goods produced here.
"The Buy WA First logo identifies the goods consumers should buy if they want to assist producers and keep jobs here in WA," he said.
