Labour Relations Minister John Kobelke has welcomed the Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission (WAIRC) decision to increase to all State award wages by between $13 and $17 from August 1, 2001.
"This wage increase will be welcomed by Western Australian workers," Mr Kobelke said.
"It will make the adult State award minimum wage $413.40 per week from August 1."
The WAIRC's State Wage Case is an annual hearing to decide whether to "flow on" the National Wage increase granted by the Australian Industrial Relations Commission earlier in the year.
"This decision is in line with submissions made by the Government that the increases should be granted to all State awards from one consistent date by General Order," Mr Kobelke said.
Under the decision, there will be a $13 per week increase in State award rates up to $490 per week; $15 per week in State award rates over $490 per week up to and including $590 per week; and a $17 per week increase in State award rates above $590.
"State awards play a pivotal role in providing low paid workers with appropriate and fair wage rates," the Minister said.
