New Europlates hit the road

Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan has launched a new customised number plate for the European car enthusiast.
Ms MacTiernan said the 'Europlate', available from today, was styled on the European licence plates that are often featured in magazine and television advertisements for European-made cars.
"Research has shown a strong demand from European-make car owners for the new 'Europlate', a concept which has already been introduced successfully in New South Wales, Queensland and New Zealand," she said.
The Minister said more than 7,000 European-make cars were purchased in Western Australia last year, and a further 70,000 currently registered.
"So popular is the Europlate concept, it is estimated that sales of the plates would represent approximately 30 per cent of the new car market and three per cent of the currently registered vehicle market," she said.
The Euro-style plate will be available in four varying designs, distinguished by an adaptation of the State's 175th Anniversary emblem.
Car owners can choose to have a 'level one' general issue alpha-numeric plate combination featuring the swan logo, or select from other more personalised versions of up to seven letters, and featuring their car logo and dealership slogan.
The plates will range in cost from $375 for a standard Europlate to $1,195 for the 'Euro premium' version.
The Europlate will be available in two sizes, tailored to fit both European-make cars and non-European make vehicles.
The design of the new Euro plates was developed in consultation with the Western Australian Constitution Council, the Western Australian Tourism Commission, the Western Australian Police Service, number plate manufacturer LicenSys Pty Ltd, the Motor Trades Association, and car dealers.
The 'level one' plate can be obtained from licensing centres throughout WA and through selected dealers, while the more personalised plates will only be available through authorised car dealers.
Funds raised from the plates will be put back into the licensing business to improve services, while a percentage of revenue will also be channeled into the Safer WA community policing program.
