Government Enterprises Minister Nick Griffiths today launched a major environmental initiative that gives 540 Geraldton properties access to a sewerage gathering and treatment system.
The Minister urged local residents to make the most of the opportunity by moving from septic tanks to the new sewerage grid.

The $4.5million Beachlands infill sewerage project was completed two months ahead of schedule and precedes the $3million Sunset Beach project, now under construction, that will deliver a sewerage scheme service to a further 372 households.
Mr Griffiths said the multi-million-dollar investment was more than warranted in Geraldton where three-quarters of the population had relied on septic tanks.
"The infill sewerage program's priorities are driven by environmental and public health imperatives," Mr Griffiths said.
"The Geraldton region is a very valuable and popular coastal city and bringing this important service to the Mid-West was a wise investment by the State Government."
The Minister said the Water Corporation and its contractors used the latest technology to minimise the impact on the environment and on local buildings.
"In the Beachlands area, the community responded very well to the challenge of the construction phase and that has helped the contractors finish the project two months ahead of time," he said.
Innovative vacuum sewerage technology was used at Beachlands, requiring shallower, less invasive trenches than traditional gravity construction methods.
