New High School at Canning Vale

Education in Perth's fast-growing southern suburbs will receive a major boost with the construction of a new high school in Canning Vale.
Announcing the $17 million project, which will include an education support centre, Education Minister Alan Carpenter said the school would open in 2004.
"Stage one of the new school will provide for Years 8 to 10 with Years 8 and 9 commencing in 2004," Mr Carpenter said.
"The school will eventually grow to include facilities for Years 11 and 12.
"It will have modern and innovative facilities, including specialist areas for the performing and visual arts and material and information technologies, a student services centre, a sports hall and a library resource centre.
"Building will commence in late 2002 and the design of the school will be developed in consultation with the school community."
The member for Southern River, Paul Andrews, said the new Canning Vale High School would service the needs of the many families who had settled in the area in recent years.
"The decision to build the new school was the result of extensive community consultation with parents, residents and local community groups actively participating in the Department of Education's local area education planning process," Mr Andrews said.
"It is through the dedication of parents, schools and the general community that the future of secondary education in the area has been assured."
Mr Andrews said Year 10 would provide a transition from middle schooling to the post-compulsory Years 11 and 12.
"The middle school campus will allow education to be focused on the specific needs of young adolescents," he said.
"Students will work with teams of teachers in a community that allows strong relationships to develop and more effective learning.
"In these teams, teachers will be able to develop a deep understanding of the educational needs of students and promote a sense of belonging."
