Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan today confirmed the appointment of Neil Hamilton as chairman of LandCorp, effective from July 1.
Mr Hamilton has extensive corporate experience. He is the managing director of Chieftain Securities and holds directorships including Western Power, Wescorp Holdings Limited, D'Orsogna Limited and SGIO Insurance.
Ms MacTiernan said Mr Hamilton would lead a strong team of six directors with wide and complementary skills, five of whom joined the board in January.
"Mr Hamilton will play a central role in steering the continuing growth of LandCorp, which has a pivotal responsibility across the State in the delivery of many of the Planning and Infrastructure portfolio's activities," she said.
"LandCorp will play a substantial role in the Government's urban renewal agenda, as well as continuing its key industrial, site remediation and other land development functions."
Mr Hamilton follows Ross Hughes, who has been chairman of LandCorp since 1998 and a director since 1997.
"The State Government acknowledges the very valuable contribution made by Ross Hughes," Ms MacTiernan said.
"Mr Hughes provided skilled and dedicated leadership and can take pride in LandCorp's success.
"He oversaw the development of a new Western Australian Land Authority Act in 1998, giving the agency State-wide responsibilities and refocussing LandCorp's activities.
"The changes incorporated into that Act saw the LandCorp model regarded as the most effective for a State land developer in Australia."
