Communities in the Midland region are set to benefit from a new $1.4million state-of-the-art fire station which is being built with funding from the Emergency Services Levy (ESL).
Emergency Services Minister and local member Michelle Roberts today visited the site on the corner of Morrison Road and Mathoura Street in Midland. Mrs Roberts turned the 'first sod' to herald the start of construction by building company PS Structure Pty Ltd.
"The eastern suburbs are one of the fastest growing regions in the State and this new $1.4million fire station will further enhance the way firefighters can protect local communities in the area," she said.
"The new station will offer both residents and industry a first class, centrally located facility to replace the 35-year-old station, which does not meet today's needs for emergency services.
"Our Government is committed to making Western Australian communities safe and secure, with the development of modern facilities and the latest equipment to assist our career firefighters to do their job quickly and effectively."
The Minister said funding from the Emergency Services Levy (ESL) would assist in the construction of the new station, which was expected to be completed by February next year.
"The local community can be proud that their emergency services levy contribution is helping to improve fire services in their area," she said.

"The station's crew - a total of 18 staff - will respond to all forms of emergencies in the Midland area including structural fires, Hazmat/Chemical/Biological and Radiological incidents, road crash rescues and bush fires.
"The Midland crews will also offer emergency support to areas outside the gazetted fire district including Middle Swan, West Swan, Jane Brook, Henley Brook, Herne Hill and Red Hill."
Mrs Roberts said the new station would include an onsite training facility, along with a fully equipped gymnasium, kitchen dining area, study and dormitories.
