New administration areas for nine schools

Three metropolitan and six country schools will receive new administration areas as part of a $2million Government program announced by Education Minister Alan Carpenter today.
The administration areas include reception, principal's office, other work areas and in some cases, a sick bay.
Mr Carpenter said the demands on administration areas from personnel and modern equipment had increased dramatically in recent years so that many of these areas in older schools were no longer suitable.
"The demands on administration areas have increased as a number of responsibilities formerly handled by head office are now the responsibility of the schools," he said.
"Also, modern technology can require a different building to what may have been commonly used in the past.
"Though the focus remains on teaching and learning, there is a pressing need to continually upgrade these administration areas.
"The department has a responsibility to see that staff and visitors to schools have suitable conditions.
"Priorities in this area have been determined by factors such as the number of staff sharing the same office; occupational, safety and health issues; and the design of the existing building."
Schools to benefit from the work will receive either modifications to existing facilities, new facilities or a pre-fabricated administration building containing a reception area, principal's office and other work areas required by a small to medium-sized school.
