Western Australian air operator Skippers Aviation will service the Perth to Laverton air route.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said the Government had called for expressions of interest in servicing the route after Skywest Airlines indicated its intention to withdraw services to Laverton earlier this year.
"Skippers have been awarded the sole operator rights on this service for two years and will provide three services per week from Laverton direct to Perth in a 19-seat Fairchild Metro 23," Ms MacTiernan said.
"The company services a number of mining operations in the region and has a diverse aircraft fleet which gives it the flexibility to meet future demand.
"The contract includes a requirement for the company to limit fare increases to consumer price index rises."
Eyre MLA John Bowler said passengers would enjoy a significant reduction in travelling time, as the service would fly directly to Laverton, rather than via Leonora and Leinster, as did the current service.
"A trip that used to take three-and-a-half hours will now take 90 minutes," Mr Bowler said.
Ms MacTiernan said the EoI process was an initiative under the State Government's Air Services Policy which aimed to ensure sustainable air services for regional communities.
"This process was conducted in full consultation with the Laverton community to ensure that the service is targeted to meet its needs," she said.
Officers from the Shire of Laverton joined Department for Planning and Infrastructure staff in assessing the submissions.
Skippers and Skywest were expected to have finalised handover arrangements by the end of the month.
