New bus services are being introduced over summer to give people better public transport access to Perth's northern metropolitan beaches and coastal attractions.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said the new increased frequency bus services from September 29, 2002 would operate:

  • between Glendalough train station and Scarborough Beach;
  • between Whitfords train station and Hillarys Boat Harbour; and
  • along the coast between Scarborough Beach and Hillarys Boat Harbour.
"These improvements will make getting to our magnificent beaches faster and easier," Ms MacTiernan said.
"Beach lovers will be able to enjoy the convenience of taking public transport to the beach, avoiding a long drive and the search for parking spaces.
"The new services also provide better access to a wide range of shopping, recreational and entertainment opportunities using our public transport system.
"Providing good public transport is about taking people where they want to go, easily and cheaply, and we are committed to continuing to improve the Transperth network to do just that."
Ms MacTiernan said the changes also improved the general service between Perth and Scarborough.
"Innaloo MLA John Quigley has been agitating for better services on this route, both on behalf of residents and so more people can enjoy Scarborough's diverse attractions," she said.
The service features:
  • Route 400 will operate between Scarborough Beach and Perth and a new route 408 will operate between Scarborough Beach and Glendalough train station.
    All Scarborough-bound buses from Glendalough train station will connect with trains from Perth and all route 400 and 408 buses from Scarborough will connect with Perth-bound trains at Glendalough train station.
    On weekdays during the daytime there will be a 15-minute service between Scarborough Beach and Perth and an 8-minute service between Scarborough Beach and Glendalough train station during peak periods.
    On Saturdays during the daytime there will be a 30-minute service between Scarborough Beach and Perth and a 15-minute service between Scarborough Beach and Glendalough train station.
    On Sundays and public holidays during the summer period there will be a 15-minute service between Scarborough Beach and Glendalough train station - and a 30-minute service during the winter. There will be a 60-minute service between Scarborough Beach and Perth all year round;
  • Route 458, which runs from Scarborough Beach to Whitfords train station via Trigg Beach, North Beach, Watermans, Sorrento Beach, Hillarys Boat Harbour and Whitfords Shopping Centre, will replace route 592. All route 458 buses will connect at Scarborough with route 400 or 408 buses to and from Perth and Glendalough train station. Route 458 also connects to route 469 at Whitfords train station.
    Route 458 will operate every 60 minutes on weekdays, and every 30 minutes on Saturdays and Sundays over the summer period. During winter, it will revert to running every 60 minutes on weekends only;
  • All route 469 buses travelling from Wanneroo to Whitfords train station will connect with the new route 458 'coastal' service at Whitfords train station. The route 469 also services Wanneroo Markets; and
  • The route 582 bus, between Whitfords and Fremantle and route 592, between Scarborough and Whitfords, will be discontinued.
