New chair appointed to WAIS
26/6/03
Sport and Recreation Minister Alan Carpenter today announced Olympian Grant Boyce as the new chairman of the Board of the West Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS).
Mr Boyce replaces retiring Chairman, Neil McKerracher QC.
"I am delighted to appoint Mr Boyce to this position," Mr Carpenter said.
"He is an obvious choice because of his extensive experience both on and off the sporting field."
Mr Boyce is currently a partner in a Chartered Accountants firm, was a member of Australia's 1984 Olympic Hockey Team and was the Deputy Chairperson of the WAIS Board prior to this appointment.
"Grant's achievements speak for themselves and I have no doubt he will be a great asset to the ongoing success of WAIS and its athletes."
Mr Carpenter also thanked Neil McKerracher QC, Chairman of the WAIS Board since 1996, and a member of the Board since 1994, for his outstanding contribution to WAIS and its athletes.
"Mr McKerracher has an esteemed reputation from both his professional career as a Queens Counsel and his involvement with sport," he said.
"The excellent staff of WAIS together with the leadership of the Board have helped WAIS become one of the premier elite athlete training facilities in the world.
"Neil is to be congratulated for his role in this success."
