A new community centre in Boulder has been named after Hart Kerspien, City of Kalgoorlie/Boulder engineer who was tragically shot and killed at the council offices in June 1992.
Opening Kerspien House today, Community Development Minister Sheila McHale said the new facility was a fitting tribute to the Kerspien family.
"It is an acknowledgment of the work of Hart, who contributed so much to the Kalgoorlie/Boulder community over many years," Ms McHale said.
"It is also an acknowledgment of the work of Heidi, who for many years worked with the Department for Community Development supporting families and communities.
"Kerspien House will continue to recognise the Kerspien family and their contributions to the community in the years to come."
The Piesse Street premises is now the home of a range of family and community services including Best Start, Migrant Women's Group, Best Beginnings, Mobile Goldfields Parenting Information Service, Perch parent support group, parenting programs and the local drug action group.
"The 'House Warming' today is a community event to launch this collaborative facility, which is already becoming a focal part of the community and marks Children's Week in the region," Ms McHale said.
"I know many people have been part of this project and I would like to extend my appreciation to everyone involved."
