New fire appliance for East Swan Bush Fire Brigade
15/8/03
Emergency Services Minister Michelle Roberts today outlined a $700,000 package of funding and new equipment to the City of Swan to make the community safer and more secure in the event of an emergency situation.
Mrs Roberts handed over the keys for a new light tanker fire appliance for the East Swan Bush Fire Brigade to City of Swan Mayor Charlie Gregorini.
Valued at approximately $75,000, the fire appliance is one of the first to be funded under the new Emergency Services Levy grant scheme.
Mrs Roberts said the new levy benefited volunteer Bush Fire Brigades and SES units by providing the funding and equipment they needed to do their job effectively and safely.
"The local volunteers are dedicated people who give so much of their time and effort, making it a better and safer place for all of us to live in and visit," she said.
"Through the levy, the community is able to return this support.
"When you pay your levy bill, you are in fact supporting these wonderful people and the service they provide to the City of Swan."
Later in the year the City of Swan will receive a further three light tankers for the East Gidgegannup, Bullsbrook and West Gidgegannup Bush Fire Brigades. They will also receive a tanker fire appliance valued at approximately $230,000 for the West Swan brigade.
In addition, the city was allocated an operating grant of over $410,000 to fund its Bush Fire Brigades and the SES Unit.
