12/2/04
Wheatbelt Minister Kim Chance has announced the appointment of a new chair and deputy chair to the board of the Wheatbelt Development Commission.
Ms Wendy Newman of Dowerin will head the commission with Jennacubbine farmer Darren West as her new deputy.
Ms Newman, a board member since June 2000, was appointed deputy chair in June 2001 under the chairmanship of the late Cr Michael Bates.
She has a background in education, marketing and events management, and is the current State vice-president of the Women In Agriculture organisation.
"Wendy's knowledge, diverse professional background and active regional networking have been a terrific asset to the commission," Mr Chance said.
"Her experience gained working with Michael Bates and her own leadership qualities will stand her in good stead for this important new role."
Mr Chance said Mr West had been an enthusiastic and valuable board member since his appointment in November 2001.
"Darren has proven to be an active participant with his involvement with several community groups and work with the Wheatbelt Crew, a youth working party of the commission.
"Members of the Wheatbelt Development Commission board play a key role in helping maximise social and economic development opportunities in the region.
"This includes encouraging regional investment, identifying growth opportunities and maximising job creation."
