Housing Minister Tom Stephens has praised the Ministry for Housing's latest project for seniors in Dianella.
Mr Stephens said the new 15-unit 'village' complex complemented the standard of the proposed surrounding neighbourhood, and was another good example of the Ministry's talent at building specialised accommodation.
"This very attractive project, on the corner of Coralberry Crescent and Yirrigan Drive Dianella, will be the entry statement to the up-market subdivision developed by Australand," the Minister said.
"The development was part of the agreement with Australand who bought land from the Ministry's Landstart superlot in 2000.
"The Ministry architect has created a 'village aesthetic' which has a pedestrian focus, with the majority of car parking concealed off the central internal courtyard area.
"No vehicular access has been allowed from Yirrigan Drive, and the site layout does not allow through access to Santara Circle for security reasons."
Mr Stephens said the Ministry architect had used a subtle blend of shapes, colours and materials to achieve the aesthetics which would complement the area.
However, the units still had all the standard features the Ministry of Housing provided for seniors, such as wider doors, no steps, and kitchens and bathrooms designed specifically to cater for seniors' needs.
The project built by BGC Construction for $1,349,000, took nine months to complete, and was now fully tenanted.
The Minister said it had been entered in the HIA housing awards under the specialised accommodation category.
He said the Ministry had built a formidable reputation in the past eight years with its many awards and finalist entries in the HIA competition.
