A range of new accommodation planned for Halls Creek and Meekatharra will provide a welcome addition to housing stocks in the respective towns.

Six houses will be built at Halls Creek houses on three separate lots.
One two-bedroom and one three-bedroom house will be built on Lot 167, John Flynn Street. Identical designs will be constructed at adjoining Lot 169 and also at Lot 112, Hall Street.

Housing and Works Minister Nick Griffiths said the houses were to be constructed by winning bidder Broome builder, Colin Wilkinson Developments.

"The buildings will be of steel frame, with colorbond walls and roofs," Mr Griffiths said.
"They are designed to suit a tropical climate and will comply with the new energy-efficiency requirements of the Building Codes of Australia."

The Government Employees' Housing Authority have allocated two of the homes for use by Department of Education and Training. Other dwellings will be allocated on a needs basis.

In Meekatharra, four houses are planned for two lots in McCleary Street. A pair of two-bedroom houses will be built at Lot 926 and a single one-bedroom and one two-bedroom house will be built on Lot 878, McCleary Street.

"PS Chester and Son of Geraldton was awarded the contract to build the steel frame homes with fibre cement boards as wall cladding and colorbond roofs," the Minister said.
"These houses meet Northern Design brief requirements and have high ceilings and verandahs to afford more comfort during summer months.

"All have four-star ratings or better, under the new energy efficiency requirements of the Building Codes of Australia. "

Mr Griffiths said that on completion, the four houses were to be occupied by staff employed by the Department of Education and Training.
